Acoustic Inspection of Coated Steel Bar in Reinforced Concrete Structure

چکیده
Bridges with reinforeerneut corrosion problems are now under careful inspection in Taiwan. Costly maintenance programs are underway and raising S"erious safety concem. There are various engineering solutions to salt-induced corrosion. Among them epoxycoated reinforcing bars, commonly referred to as rebar, are frequently used in marine environment and other areas due to its durability, reasonable cost, and convenience. However, coated rebar has lower bond strength and is less ductile than uncoated rebar. Thus it could result in larger crack width during pull-out tests [1,2]. The bond strength between coated steel bars and covered concrete results from the adhesion at the steel-concrete boundary, the frictional force, and the interlocking force provided by the raised ribs at the steel bar surface. The interlocking force is much stronger than the other two, while the frictional force occurs only if the adhesion vanishes after delamination or disbonding starts.

Currently in the United Kingdom there are over 100 bridges containing hinge joint components, introduced to simplify and standardise designs. Visual inspection of hinge joints noted bridge deck waterproofing failure, which can cause steel reinforcement bar corrosion. This reinforcement is crucial to the integrity of the joint, and the loss of reinforcement section can induce higher stresses lea...

A large number of reinforced concrete structures subjected to chloride ions. Two basicapproaches for preventing corrosion of reinforcing steel embedded in concrete are: Increasing theconsolidation of concrete and using different coating on rebars. In present research steel rebarsare coated in different ways: a) 40 µm of zinc electroplated on steel rebar b) Zinc powder withepoxy paste (zinc rich...

The effect of zinc phosphate (ZP) and zinc calcium phosphate (ZCP) coatings on the reinforcing mechanisms of smooth steel fiber in cementitious matrix have been studied. The results of pull out tests illustrated that by coating smooth steel fiber the pull-out load may be increased up to 100%. The effect of zinc phosphate coating on interface bonding was more than zinc-calcium phosphate coating....

Corrosion of steel reinforcement is one of the most prevalent causes of reinforced concrete (RC) structures deterioration in chloride-contaminated environments. As a result, evaluating the impact of any possible corrosion-induced damages to reinforced concrete bridges strongly affects management decisions: such as inspection, maintenance and repair actions. The corrosion propagation phase is a ...
